Mr. Maretka’s Environmental Science/Field Biology class hosted preschoolers at the land lab to net fish in the pond and go on a hike on September 24th.
The children and their parents had the opportunity to use a net to catch creatures from the pond and were able to examine salamanders, nymphs, toads, fish, and even spiders. Senior Sam Bernhardt called the event, “A truly enriching experience for us and the kids. It’s awesome to have the opportunity to spend a beautiful day outside while inspiring the next generation to get involved in nature.”
Mr. Maretka’s students helped guide the families in using the nets, and later lined up along the trail to show the children different creatures that can be found around the area.
“It is always fun to watch the student become the teacher,” Maretka noted, as all of his current students had the opportunity to teach the preschoolers about their class.
