The IHS varsity baseball team delivered an impressive performance in a double header against rival Cuyahoga Heights with a great display of strategy, discipline, and teamwork, according to head coach Jim Crooks, on Monday, April 13th, with a score of 8-2, and Tuesday, April 14th, with a score of 9-1.
Facing the schools biggest rival, the team knew it needed to bring its best from the very first pitch. Coach Crooks emphasized that preparation and execution were key to success. “When Indy plays Cuyahoga Heights, our rivals, our team needs to play its very best baseball and be prepared to use all of the assets our team drills and practices,” Crooks said. The team’s approach was clear, win game one decisively and apply pressure heading into game two.
A major turning point came from the team’s ability to adapt offensively. Rather than relying solely on power hitting, IHS shifted to its signature “Indy Boys” style of play, focusing on small ball, stealing bases, and putting constant pressure on the defense. The adjustment proved effective and kept Cuyahoga Heights on its heels throughout both games.
Leading the game was Anderson Jolliffe, who delivered a standout performance on the mound by throwing a no-hitter. His dominance set the tone for the entire series. Offensively, Anthony Sobonya and Owen Jenks made big impacts, with Jenks hitting a homerun. Strong contributions also came from Josh Peters and Vinny Carriero. Kaden Schuette, David Crooks, Ryan Suhy, and Nolan Ghann all played key roles in securing the sweep. “I thought both games the team played well,” Schuette expressed, “We bounced back well after falling behind early on Monday. On Tuesday, we felt more confident, knew what to expect, and just outplayed them the entire game.”
Beyond the field, Crooks highlighted the team’s mindset and unity as the strength behind their success. “Indy Boys are dedicated to its vision of winning a state title while having an elite student-athlete experience, one game at a time,” he said. He described the team as “The Band of Brothers,” emphasizing their commitment to working hard, competing at a high level, and supporting one another.
With momentum on their side, the IHS varsity baseball team is looking ahead with confidence and determination. As they continue their season, the Indy Boys invite the community to come out and support them as they chase their goal of a state championship.
