IHS welcomes our new intervention specialist: Ms. Claire Richardson! Previous to her time here at IHS, she explains that she attended Ohio University to earn her undergraduate degree in 2024 and two masters degrees in 2025.
Although she has always wanted to be a teacher, she admits that she was also curious about studying business, so she also has a degree in marketing. While doing her gradwork, she began her fellowship program at the Tri County Career Center in Nelsonville, Ohio (near Athens), in the Fire EMS, Networking, and Media programs. It’s similar to the size of IHS; however, it’s half trade and half academics.
Reflecting on when she knew she would be a good educator, Richardson said that as an only child, she entertained herself by reading “actual teacher books” and taught four imaginary students with an easel board in her living room. Yet, her “amazing” teacher (Mrs. Hunt) solidified her desire and motivation to educate. Hunt taught her everything about grammar and reading, and encouraged her to persevere through struggle.
Richardson wants her own students to know that “it’s okay to struggle, but you just have to get past it. Those are obstacles,” and additionally to “live in the moment because you can’t get back these times.” Richardson is a Lake Catholic grad, where she participated in volleyball, soccer, swimming and track.
Aside from helping students, she disclosed that she enjoys running and working out, going thrift shopping, watching Dancing With The Stars, and (as of this summer) water painting, where she pushed herself to paint two hours every day! On the weekend, Ms. Richardson drives to her grandmother’s for their Sunday family dinner where she goes swimming in the warmer weather, plays games, and cooks dinner.
Fun fact about Ms. Richardson: her biggest pet peeves are loud gum chewers and slow drivers. She also has a one year old golden retriever named Gigi!
