This year, IHS welcomes Miss Caroline Quinn to the counseling staff. She’s a proud John Carroll University graduate, earning both her Bachelor’s degree in psychology and her master’s degree in education there. Before joining IHS, Quinn completed her internship at Bay Village High School and then worked for over 2 years as a school counselor at Madison High School. Compared to IHS, she finds similarities between the types of students and their drives. She shared that while each school setting has its own environment, she’s already loving the small community here in Independence, where “everyone rallies around each other and supports one another.”
Family is a big part of Quinn’s life. She’s the middle of three siblings–her older brother and younger sister. Her parents live in Lakewood, where her brother owns a vintage shop which even caught the attention of Cleveland athletes and country star Morgan Wallen’s stylist. Her younger sister works with Harley Davidson.
Quinn is also engaged to her fiancé, Travis, who works in professional sports fields, including for the Browns, Guardians, and even MLB teams across the country! She doesn’t have any pets yet, but she and Travis grew up with them and are now waiting to adopt after settling into a new house. The couple is excitedly planning their wedding for next summer!
Outside of school, Quinn enjoys staying active through walks, workouts, and even some lake activities like water skiing and jet skiing! She also loves sports, cheering for the Buckeyes, Browns, and Guardians. One of her favorite pastimes is collecting sea glass, as she has a personal collection herself. She also enjoys cooking and hopes to improve her baking skills, as she admits some recipes don’t go as planned!
When asked about high school, she reflected on her own time at Magnificat, where she played basketball, worked at Mitchell’s ice cream, babysat, and was a lifeguard. One thing that stuck throughout her school years was exciting football games, which she and her friends would attend. Back then, she thought she might pursue a career in criminal justice, even shadowing a probation officer, but ultimately discovered her passion for counseling!
Quinn also shared her biggest pet peeve– hypocrites! From her own high school experiences, she isn’t fond of people complaining about behavior in others that they do themselves.
Her advice for students at IHS is to enjoy high school while it lasts.
“Sometimes we’re so focused on the next thing that we forget to enjoy where we are right now. Don’t rush through it. You’ll look back and wonder where the time went,” she explained.
Guilty of rushing time herself, she suggest that instead of waiting for that hard week to end, “romanticize it and make the small, mundane tasks of life enjoyable.”
