IHS juniors and seniors enjoyed their week of fun festivities leading up to prom on Friday, May 8th. From the prom court assembly Thursday morning to bouncing around at Sky Zone for After Prom until 2 a.m., this year’s prom was filled with excitement, celebration, and memories to last a lifetime.
At this year’s prom assembly, students get a glimpse of what makes prom season one of the most anticipated traditions. According to prom advisor Mrs. Jennifer Lewis, the assembly is designed to give underclassmen something to look forward to while also allowing juniors and seniors to showcase the students selected for prom court and celebrate why they were chosen for king and queen honors. The 2026 Prom court included Sofia Pichert, Tatiana Randjelovic, Samantha Haller, Nora Olexa, MaryAnne Leroy, Ryan Mack, Sam Bernhardt, Armando Romano, Liam Rienerth and Anthony Sobonya.
One of the highlights of the assembly is the annual video introducing the Prom Court. Rather than sticking to a simple interview format, this year’s presentation included video clips, along with games and entertaining moments to keep the audience engaged. Students in the audience also had the chance to play along with the Prom Court by scanning a QR code to join. Audience participation also played a major role, helping students throughout the school feel included in the celebration. Lewis explained that the assembly changes every year to avoid becoming repetitive and to make each prom feel unique.
This year’s prom was held at The Aviator, a venue that offered both indoor space and outdoor patio access. Although the weather prevented students from fully enjoying the outdoor area, Lewis said the patio added to the experience. Another advantage of the venue was that the school did not have to share the space with other schools, allowing students to enjoy a more personal event. Because the venue functions as a restaurant, the food quality also stood out compared to previous years’ prom meals.
While this year’s prom was considered a success, changes are already on the horizon. Lewis revealed that she will not be continuing as advisor, meaning a new advisor will bring fresh ideas to both the assembly and the dance itself. Next year’s prom is planned for the St. Clair Ballroom in downtown Cleveland, a venue known for its high ceilings and elegant atmosphere. The advisor expressed excitement to see how the new leadership will continue to make prom more entertaining and memorable for students in the future.
The first few memorable moments of the dance included announcing our prom court, as well as crowning the 2026 Prom King and Queen, Armando Romano and Sofia Pichert. “Being crowned Prom Queen was such an unforgettable and exciting moment,” Pichert said. “I was completely shocked and so grateful for everyone who supported and voted for me.” For her, the title represented more than just a crown. It symbolized the support and appreciation she has felt from her classmates throughout her high school years. “It made me feel really thankful for all the friendships and memories I’ve made throughout high school.”
While the crowning was a highlight of the evening, Pichert said her favorite part of prom was simply spending time with friends and classmates one last time before graduation. “It was such a fun way for everyone to celebrate together before graduation and make lasting memories,” she added.
Pichert plans to attend Miami University where she will study Pre-Health Sciences while co-majoring in Child Life Specialties. Her goal is to pursue a career helping children and families in healthcare settings. “I’m excited to continue my education and work toward a career helping children and families in healthcare settings,” she said. She also offered advice to younger students hoping to make the most of their high school experience. “Always get involved, be kind to everyone, and always make someone smile,” she said. “High school goes by quickly, so make the most of every moment and leave a positive impact on the people around you.”
