On Monday, May 18th, the JustWrite team traveled to the state tournament at Bluffton University.
Writers were split into underclassmen (D1) and upperclassmen (D2). The two divisions were placed in separate rooms for three rounds, during which they were given a genre, a prompt, and 45 minutes to write a story.
JustWrite coach Mrs. Jill Wagner felt proud, excited, and optimistic about the team making it to states, sharing that “The tournament was wonderful. It gave all writers across the state, and even some students from Michigan, a chance to have their voice heard”.
Notably, sophomore Caitlynn Barry placed 7th overall. Reflecting on her experience, Barry stated “It feels really good to get my work recognized, especially because I was genuinely happy to write these stories and was proud of the outcomes.”
Wagner gave her thoughts on Barry’s accomplishment:”It was so rewarding to see Caitlynn Barry win 7th place overall at the tournament. One of my hopes is that every writer receives some glory during their competitive writing career. It was Caitlynn’s day to brilliantly shine! One might say, her day was dipped in gold!”
“I was grateful to even be placed, especially when it’s a high placement,” Barry expressed, this being her first award for states.
