The Cuyahoga Valley Career Center’s National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) officially inducted ten IHS students at the NTHS induction ceremony on March 18.

NTHS serves to recognize outstanding students in Career and Technical Education and celebrate their hard work.

Of the 91 total students, the ten from IHS included juniors Carmen Chen, David Crooks, Claire Dailey, Emma Iacianci, Julia Jurkiewicz, Luke Masek, Riley Melbar, Mitch Meyer, Alex Polcar and Johnny Walsh.

NTHS “helps students who try their hardest in their academic field get recognized for the work they put in,” Polcar explained.

In addition to highlighting student excellence, NTHS shows above-and-beyond character and leadership. “The students who are a part of NTHS are not only outstanding academic students both at CVCC and their home school, but they are also the future leaders in our society,” CVCC assistant principal Mrs. Ashlee Ward said.

“I get to put [NTHS] on my resume and my college application,” Chen commented.

In order to be eligible for induction into NTHS, students must have a minimum GPA of a 3.3 from their home school and a 3.75 from CVCC, along with a 98% attendance rate. They must participate in leadership activities. Students must also be in a Career-Technical Student Organization (CTSO), a career-specific intracurricular organization that helps expand learning at CVCC. Recommended students represent the pillars of Honesty, Service, Leadership and Skill Development.

“They are all hard workers and just an absolute dream to work with,” Ward said.

“It’s definitely something to be proud of because only a few people get in, especially at the career center,” Crooks added.
